Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable receptionist / administrator to join our friendly, supportive and progressive city-centre Practice.

The ideal candidate will be great with patients and have a good knowledge of IT. The role will entail a mixture of administrative duties as well as care navigation.

We welcome experienced NHS Receptionists as well as candidates who are willing to learn.

Main duties of the job

The primary responsibility of the candidate will be to welcome, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

The role is part of a hard-working, highly-motivated, supportive team so the candidate should be an excellent team player. The candidate will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, both in person and over the telephone.

About us

Mount Pleasant Health Centre is one of the largest training practices in Exeter, serving over 17,000 patients in a purpose-built premises. We are a SystmOne Practice. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and caring place to work, with an open-door policy and daily team meetings where there is no such thing as a stupid question. As a result, the majority of our GP team is made up of doctors who were once trainees at the practice and enjoyed it so much they decided to stay.

Job responsibilities

The role of a medical receptionist / Administrator is the face of the practice to patients and other visitors so candidates should be friendly, presentable and willing to contribute as a team player to the smooth running of the practice.

Duties will include identifying patients' problems and bringing them to the attentions of the correct clinician, i.e., triage GP, Nurse, PCN roles etc. Receiving patients and handling their enquiries, dealing with incoming calls and emails and act upon them accordingly; booking appointments; act on tasks requested by other members of the practice team; keeping the reception area tidy and well-organised; process all telephone requests in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner; other duties as requested.

Excellent communication skills and a full understading of practice procedures are a key part of the role and this extends to recognising patient need for alternative methods of communication and to respond accordingly.

Patient confidentiality is paramount and protocols are expected to be understood and maintained. The candidate will need to develop a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures.

The post-holder will be expected to support the equality, diversity and rights of all patients, carers and colleagues and behave in a manner which is welcoming, non-judgmental and respects the circumstances, feelings and rights of individuals.

The post-holder will be expected to strive to maintain the excellent reputation and smooth-running of the practice and to develop their skills to keep pace with practice progression.
