Job summary
Queens Park Medical Centre is a busy GP practice based in Stockton-on-Tees. An opportunity has arisen to join our prescribing team, working alongside our 3 prescription clerks, pharmacy technician and practice pharmacist.
This is a challenging role which requires excellent communication and computer skills.
Knowledge of the workings of General Practice or pharmacy experience would be a distinct advantage.
Main duties of the job
The primary responsibility is to provide a high quality service to our patients.
Prescription clerks work as part of the practice team, supporting clinicians in the management and preparation of prescriptions. They must liaise with patients, dealing with prescription queries and providing patient education and advice where appropriate.
The ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm is essential, whilst also using your own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense.
Facilitating effective communication between patients, members of the primary healthcare team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies is an essential part of this role.

Job responsibilities
Issue repeat prescriptions that are requested in writing, over the reception desk, by post, or via SystmOne in accordance to practice protocol.
- Ensure that all requests are issued in a timely manner according to protocol
- Liaise with patients and pharmacies regarding queries and requests
- Ensure repeat medication is issued in line with the protocols that are already set out
- Ensure that any queries on medication are highlighted to the relevant GP/practice pharmacist
- Pass appropriate requests to doctors/practice pharmacist via task for authorisation
- Add medication to repeat template as per prescribing clinician request
- Attend staff meetings and relevant training courses as necessary
- Work safely at all times in accordance with Legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures
Monitor and check tasks and work flows
Reconcile medication from hospital discharge letters
Amend medication from out patient appointment letters
Ensure appropriate monitoring has been undertaking, contacting the patient and booking appointments where necessary and updating recalls.
