Job summary

New Dover Road Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant HCA or Nursing Associate to join our friendly, supportive general practice team for 28 hours per week.

The successful candidate will work closely with our GPs, Practice Nurses, and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality patient care. We are seeking someone who is dedicated, professional, and enthusiastic about working in primary care.

Main duties of the job

Duties will depend on experience,training and scope of practice, but may include

Clinical Responsibilities

Phlebotomy

Blood pressure monitoring

ECG recording

NHS Health Checks

Height, weight,BMI and lifestyle measurements

Wound care and dressings

Smoking cessation support

Urinalysis and specimen handling

Chaperoning clinicians

New patient health checks

Assistingwith chronic disease reviews (within competence)

Immunisation support and administration (for qualified Nursing Associates or trained HCAs

Assisting with minor surgery clinics

Maintaining infection prevention and control standards

Ensuring clinical rooms and equipment are compliant with CQC requirements

Administrative Responsibilities

Accurate clinical record-keeping on EMIS

Supporting audits and quality improvement projects

Managing assigned tasks and recalls

Supporting patient education and signposting

Participating in practice meetings,training and mandatory updates

Professional Responsibilities

Working in line with practice policies and procedures

Upholding safeguarding responsibilities

Maintaining professional competency

Demonstrating a patient centred, compassionate approach

New Dover Road Surgery is located close to the city centre of Canterbury in Kent. We are a well established 6 GP partner practice serving a registered population of around 11,000 patients.

The Healthcare Assistant HCA will work as part of the clinical team to provide high quality, compassionate care to patients. The role involves supporting nurses, GPs, and other healthcare professionals by carrying out delegated clinical and administrative tasks in line with training and competence.

Key Responsibilities

Perform clinical duties such as observations, blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis, ECGs, venepuncture, wound care, and assisting with clinics (e.g., chronic disease, flu, and vaccination sessions).

Support patient health promotion activities, including lifestyle advice and signposting.

Prepare and maintain clinical areas, ensuring equipment is clean, safe, and stocked.

Accurately record patient information using the clinical system(e.g., EMIS.

Assist with administrative tasks such as recalls, screening checks, and patient flow during clinics.

Provide respectful, person centred care at all times.
