Job summary

Ringland Medical Practice, Newport, are looking for two new team members with a calm, friendly manner and the motivation to assist the practice in delivering a high level of care to the patients of the practice. We would like someone for 27.5 hours, across 5 days, but the successful applicant would need to be flexible.

The successful applicant will be able to work well within a team environment, have a high level of organisational and communication skills, along with an enthusiasm for working in a fast paced environment, alongside our friendly, professional practice team in a supportive working environment. Previous experience is not necessary as full training will be given for the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

Duties to include:

Welcoming patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone.

Answering and/or referring enquiries appropriately

Maintaining confidentiality of personal information.

Assisting in maintaining the smooth running of the reception office by carrying out general administrative and reception tasks.

Contribute to the team effort by working effectively as a valued team member.

The successful applicant will have:

Good literacy skills.

About us

Ringland Medical Practice Newport, is a Health Board owned Medical Centre which is relocating to a purpose built Health Centre in the near future.

It has a 8,500 patient list size and is a well-run, innovative and sustainable practice, who focus on providing a holistic care service for all of our patients.

We have been through some significant changes recently and we are now ready to build up our administrative and reception team in order to cope with the increasing demand from our patient list.

Personal Specification

Team player Part of a team able to get on with other staff and patients. Liaise with otherprofessionals e.g. District Nurses, Health Visitors.

Attitude The Receptionist is the face of the surgery and the first point of contact for mostpatients. Attitude should be cheerful, kind, considerate, patient and calm, with a good telephonemanner.

Efficient Careful, and methodical.

Accurate Especially when taking and conveying messages.

Job Specification

Meeting and greeting patients at the reception desk.

Liaising with other medical members of the Primary Healthcare Team.

Dealing with any queries both in person and by telephone, receiving and recording messagesaccurately.

Telephone answering to deal with the following:

o Appointments

o Home visits by GPs

o Test results (where required)

Required to use the practice computer system. The computer system is used to access mostpatient information at the surgery. GP and Nurse appointments are made via the computer.

Test results are given from information held on the computer system.

Filing prescriptions after morning surgery.

End of surgery tidy up (morning & afternoon).

Filing and maintaining medical records.

Afternoon sessions require the securing of the health centre building at the end of surgery.

Any other tasks as necessary.

Attend practice meetings as required.
