Job summary
We are looking for a newly qualified GP (qualified within the last two years) to compliment our existing team of three partners and one salaried GP.
In recent years our patient population has grown significantly and is likely to further increase owing to future developments in the area, therefore we have anticipated the need for increased clinical capacity.
We are able to offer between 4 and 8 session (2 -4 days) per week, with a view to job share.
We envisage this to be a long term position for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
- Perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently and with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting.
- Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence.
- Be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care is primary.
- Provide counselling and health education.
- Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Collect data for audit purposes.
- Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
- Prescribe in accordance with the ICB prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.

We are an 8,700 patient Practice situated on the outskirts of Norwich. We are part of the East Norwich Primary Care Network, working alongside 7 neighbouring practices to explore opportunities to provide services at scale and work collaboratively for the benefit of our staff and patients.
As part of the PCN we are supported by Norfolk Primary Care CIC, who provide services to support us in our everyday working, such as the invaluable home visiting service.

- To support the GP Partners to manage a busy caseload and
deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the
highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. You will
also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas and
assist in developing healthcare services.
- You will be responsible for the provision of medical
services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of
clinical care whilst complying with the Old Catton Medical Practice policies and protocols.
Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical
practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by
example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the
multidisciplinary team.
- To facilitate the development of the role, the practice and
the individual, all personnel should be prepared to accept additional, or
surrender existing duties, to enable the efficient running of the practice.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:
- The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried
GP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will
be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the surgery timetable, as agreed, the
post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties
including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting
patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with
queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to
presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care
workers within the organisation
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with
undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs
of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current
practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
- Processing of administration in a timely manner, including
referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative
tasks
- Providing counselling and health education
- Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload
and referring to other care providers as appropriate
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to
agreed standards on SystmOne
- Collecting/entering/coding data for audit purposes, for
example practice QOF codes
- Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat
prescriptions avoiding hand written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing
formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
- In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake
all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within
primary care
- On a rotational basis, undertake the duty doctor role.
- Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff
regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times
- Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as
required
- Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the
practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
