Job summary

Cheylesmore Surgery have an exciting opportunity for a qualified & experienced Physician Associate to join our Practice Team. As a Physician Associate you will be an essential part of our well-established multi-disciplinary team. Join us in providing clinical excellence and contributing to the development of future clinicians.

Main duties of the job

As a Physician Associate you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a suitable clinician.

You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the services, in consultation with a suitable clinician. You will work with the multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of policy and procedures and meet the needs of patients.

About us

Cheylesmore Surgery is a modern, suburban surgery near the centre of Coventry. We are continuously expanding our Practice list and are a large practice with currently 13,500 patients.

We are also a training practice for GP Registrar's and nursing students.

Our team includes a very experienced administrative team and includes doctors, pharmacists, physician associate, paramedic practitioner, practice nurse and HCA's.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Physician Associate will, under appropriate supervision:

Provide a first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, utilising history taking, physical examination, problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan working in partnership with patients.

Undertake as agreed consultations for emergency, urgent problems or routine problems . In addition, undertake telephone consultations/home visits.

Instigate necessary invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tests or investigations and interpret findings/reports within the scope of a PA's practice. Discuss the result and implications of laboratory investigations with patients.

Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice.

Offer a holistic service to patients and their families, developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care/support with an emphasis on prevention and self-care.

Refer patients directly to other services or agencies using appropriate referral pathways.

Ensure safe handover of care within and outside the practice as appropriate.

Work directly with members of the health care team and support integrated patient centred care through appropriate working with wider primary care/social care networks.

Contribute to the practice quality targets to consistently achieve high standards of safe, evidence-based, cost-effective patient care and service delivery.

To provide clinical leadership where appropriate within the practice.

Promote and support a learning culture within the practice and assist in clinical instruction, mentoring and supervision of medical, nursing or physician associate students and other learners attached to the practice.

Maintain clinical skills relevant to your role and expertise.

Utilise clincial guidelines and promote evidence based practice.

Work collaboratively with patients and their families to develop appropriate on-going care plans with an emphasis on prevention and self-care.

Participate in practice appraisals and towards a personal development plan, utilising a reflective approach to practice.

Undertake a variety of research and analysis tasks associated with the improvement of clincial care, medical diagnosis and treatments where appropriate.

Contribute to regular multidisclipinary and practice meetings.

Contribute to the development of practice policies and protocols.

Fully document all aspects of patient care and manage clinical data in accordance with relevant standards.

Undertake statutory and mandatory training required by the Practice.

Comply at all times with the practice health and safety policies.

Co-operate with all policiesand procedures designed to support equality of employment. Co-workers, patients and visitors must be treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion etc.

Establish and maintain effective communication pathways with all practice staff and visiting clinical team members such as district nurses, matrons, health visitors etc
