Job summary

We are looking for an experienced HCA to join the team @ Stoneleigh. Working alongside our Nurse and HCA the candidate will be a part of a small nursing team. With the role of a HCA diversifying we are keen to ensure training and support is available to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a HCA who can do the following or is open to immediate training:

  • Spirometry
  • Dressings (ideally with compression but someone who is open to training)
  • Injections such as B12 and Flu.
  • NHS health checks.
  • Heights, Weights and blood pressures.
  • Ear syringing

About us

Stoneleigh surgery is based in the heart of Stoneleigh and has a patient population of around 6000. We have two partnered GP's Dr Mckeon and Dr Bains. We are in the process of expanding the surgery and would like to put on more services for our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols and within the scope of their practice, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care, including preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • NHS health checks and new patient checks
  • ECG recording
  • Phlebotomy
  • Spirometry and reversibility
  • Assisting the Practice Nurse with annual reviews; hypertension, CHD, Stroke and Peripheral Arterial Disease.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required under supervision of the Practice Nurse
  • When trained, administer B12 injections and flu vaccinations
  • Breath test, D-Dimer and pregnancy testing
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage monitoring and recording of fridge temperatures.
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE C or above.
  • Care certificate or equivalent qualification such as health and social care level two.

Desirable

  • Qualified in phlebotomy, Spirometry, wound care, ear syringing.

Experience

Essential

  • HCA experience essential.
  • Experience dealing with patients and vulnerable patients.
  • Experience being a HCA in the NHS and working with-in NHS policy's and procedures.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a GP practice.
  • Experience working in primary care.
