NURSING ASSOCIATE RESPONSIBILITIES RELATING TO WOMENS HEALTH
POST
This is a new role for SWAGGA PCN so we are looking for
someone who can work as part of a team to help develop our Women's Health Hub. The
successful candidate will need to be a strong communicator and have a passion
for Womens Health. Were looking for someone with good administrative skills
who has an excellent connection with patients and is enthusiastic about
training in new clinical skills pertaining to womens health (such as smear taking
and ring pessary fitting).
Any previous experience in Womens Health settings is
desirable (although not essential).
THE ROLE IN THE SWAGGA WOMENS HEALTH HUB:
To work closely with the Womens Health Lead to help develop
the Womens Health Service. Your duties may include:
Assist in LARC procedures
Improve access to smear appointments
STI screens
Training in smear taking
Training in ring pessary fitting
Pill checks
Assisting in HRT requests and menopause care
Training in new clinical skills (such as clinical procedures)
Liaising with the 16 SWAGGA surgeries to promote the Womens
health hub, facilitate referrals and queries across the PCN
You will design and
implement systems and processes to support the leadership team to ensure the
PCN is able to identify the needs of women across the PCN and respond
accordingly. The roles and responsibilities will be developed and supported alongside
clinical competency frameworks (these will be agreed and assessed through
senior nursing colleagues and with the support Womens Health Lead GP).
GENERAL NURSING ASSOCIATE RESPONSIBILITIES
To assist and perform routine
nursing tasks related to patient care, such as blood pressure checks, routine
diabetic foot checks, inhaler technique checks, immunisations, BMI lifestyle
and advice, as directed and agreed with line manager, registered general nurses
and GPs. To support patients to improve and maintain their mental, physical,
behavioural health and well-being by using behaviour change interventions, such
as undertaking health checks (physical and mental), smoking cessation services.
Following training and competency
assessment, to undertake adult and child NHS immunisation programmes and ensure
vaccines/injections are administrated under the appropriate legal framework. To
undertake administration of prescribed medicines via IM, SC routes, following
competency-based training and practice policy.
To support health action planning,
as part of Learning Disability and Severe Mental Illness physical health
checks, working closely with the network LD and SMI care coordinators, with the
support of practice clinical leads and community specialist teams. To undertake
the collection of pathological & microbiology specimens including
venepuncture, swabs, urine culture in line with local guidelines. To support
chronic disease management including monitoring patients with stable asthma,
COPD and undertaking preliminary investigations for Type 2 diabetes patients
and heart disease, such as urinalysis, arranging ECGs
To provide general health
promotion education, advice on national screening programs and guide/refer
patients to appropriate services. In line with national guidance and with
recognised competency-based training, undertake screening programs such as
cervical screening tests.
To undertake a basic history,
order basic clinical investigations (such as urine for MC&S) and refer
patients to relevant clinician for interpretation/ planning of care. To be able
to provide appropriate self-care advice for patients presenting with minor
illness within own level of competency and referring to GP/ANP where
appropriate.
Chaperone and assist patients
where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician. To maintain
effective infection control measures in line with local guidelines and practice
policy. To be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, according to the
current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
To be able to perform
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and the correct use of Automated
Defibrillator following training, according to the current UK Resuscitation
Council guidelines. To engage in the support the training of nursing and
medical students, and newly appointed colleagues. To participate in
developments within the practice / network and support QOF / DES requirements.
To be registered with the NMC.
Work in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice for
Nursing Associate. Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments
are recorded in the patients notes and on computers, as per NMC guidelines.
Attend and actively participate
in practice and network meetings as required. Awareness of statutory protection
procedures including referral and recognition of signs and symptoms of child
abuse.
Awareness of referral mechanisms
for mental health issues, family violence, vulnerable adults and addictive
behaviours. Actively take part in mandatory and internalexternal training as
requested. Adhere to and follow all practice policies and protocols.
Stakeholder Relationships
Work as part of the wider
holistic team to provide cover and support as necessary. To work with our
clinical and digital system colleagues to implement and operate technology
solutions which may include wearables or equipment to enable self-taking of
health diagnostics e.g., blood pressure, weight etc.
Build and maintain relationships
with primary, secondary, community and voluntary leads and members of the local
support team including named GPs, pharmacist, community nursing team,
therapists, mental health professionals etc.
Collaborative working
relationships:
Work within the primary care
team, contributing to leadership of service evaluation to promote quality
improvement activity.
Work in partnership with members
of the PCN workforce including medical, nursing, pharmacy, PCN care
co-ordinators, link worker, health coaches to personalise care
Management:
Use resources effectively to
manage clinic delivery in line with local and local guidance and makes
recommendations for change where improvements can be made.
Follows professional and
organisational policies
Education, learning and
development:
Comply with all organisational
and statutory requirements (health and safety, infection control, equality and
diversity, confidentiality, safeguarding adults and children, information
governance).
Engages in developing objectives
to inform a Personal Development Plan and supports practice staff and responds
to requests for advice and assistance.
Complete all mandatory and
statutory training required by the role. Individual takes responsibility for
personal development, learning and performance
Undertakes additional training
where necessary to provide enhanced services and participate in training
programmes implemented by the PCN/practices as part of this employment.
Understands and demonstrates the
characteristics of a role model to members in the team and/or service.
Demonstrates an understanding of
current educational policies relevant to working areas of practice and keeps up
to date with relevant clinical practice.
Participation in an annual
individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a
record of own personal and/or professional development. Individual engages in
clinical supervision.

Under supervision and support of
GPs, registered nurses and the wider team, the post-holder will strive to
maintain quality within the PCN, and will:
Participate in clinical
governance activity and contribute to the improvement in quality of health
outcomes through audit, risk management and Quality Improvement
Alerts other team members to

Participates in investigation of
incidents and events as required
Identify, applies, and
disseminates research findings relating to current practice
Collect data for audit purposes
and uses clinical audit to monitor quality in the service
Contribute to the effectiveness
of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on
ways to improve and enhance the team performance
