We have an opening for someone to train in the new role of a General Practice Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills on the job and become an integral part of our practice team. As this is a new developing role within General Practice, training will be given including weekly access to a GP mentor for the right candidate. Please see the job description and person spec for more information regarding the criteria needed. Main duties of the job
This is a new and evolving role so the duties will change over time. However, the main role is to assist the General practitioners with their admin workload. So some of the main duties that you will be trained in are as follows:
Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions.
Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to
notes.
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of
patients.
Supporting GP with basic observations as required e.g., dipping urine, taking
blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.

GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency
forms etc.
Explaining treatment procedures to patients as requested by the GP.
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g., getting an on-call doctor on the
phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their
consultation(s).

are a very busy GP Practice in Bradford looking to recruit and train the right candidate to become an accredited General Practice Assistant - which is a fairly new role for General Practices. The role at the moment is on a fixed term contract until end of March 25 - however this is likely to be extended as it is funded via the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS role) via our Primary Care Network (PCN).
We are a friendly
and supportive team delivering high quality care to our diverse group of
approximately 8500 patients. Our team comprises of 3 GP Partners, 6 Salaried
GPs, 3 trainee Registrar, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 HCA,
Management and Clerical staff.

Any remuneration or adaptation of the job description will be at the discretion of the GP practice and in agreement with the GP Assistant.

The GPA must ensure that they work within and recognise their scope of practice, escalating any concerns to the GP.

- Recognising issues and gathering sufficient information to refer as per Practice/National Policies (e.g. drugs; domesticviolence; child protection; vulnerable adults; senior patients; social problems)
Health screening
- General basic observations (once competent) including routine blood tests, Blood Pressure checks/monitoring and testing urine samples
- Taking ECG recordings and entering onto the patient record/notifying the GP
Additional Duties
- To maintaining accurate patient records and enter onto the computer system using agreed Read Codes
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Attendance and participation in Practice Meetings
- Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time
