Job summary

Royal Docks Medical Practice looking for 2 (two) part-time preferably experienced GP receptionist (20 hours per week, Mon-Friday in addition a saturday working on a Rota system) with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our friendly team. This a permanent position, subject to review with 6 months provisional period.

You will become part of our busy reception team and strive to ensure our patients receive the best possible service from the Practice. With good inter-personal skills and able to respond sympathetically to queries and direct people appropriately, you will possess good administrative and organisational skills.

Applicants must be willing to work flexibly to cover holidays.

Main duties of the job

Our Receptionists deals with our day-to-day patient contact, handling incoming calls requesting appointments and enquiries, and welcoming patients into the Surgery. Receptionists also do much more, supporting the GPs and Nurses with keeping patients informed about their health. We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, clearly spoken receptionist who preferably has experience of working within a busy GP surgery using EMIS WEB Clinical System.

Full training and support would be offered to the successful applicant.

About us

The Royal Docks Medical Practice is a Teaching & training Practice for medical students based at Barts Health. We often have a trainee registrar doctor/FY2 doctor completing their General Practice training.

We are situated in Beckton E6 Royal Docks area which is close to Cyprus DLR.

The Royal Docks Medical Practice serves a population of just over 12100 patients from diverse backgrounds. We are a forward thinking and progressive practice, constantly working to improve standards, the patient journey and clinical outcomes. Our clinical workforce consists of GP Partner, Salaried GPs, GP Registrars, Practice Nurses, clinical pharmacist, physiotherapist and Social Prescriber 1 Care Co-ordinator. This clinical team is supported by a managerial, admin and reception team.

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice administration team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the senior receptionist/practice manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:

  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms as required
