Job summary

Mount Road Practice is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly, proactive team.

This is a part-time role (23 hours per week, Wednesday to Friday) where you will play a key role in delivering high-quality nursing care to patients and supporting the wider clinical team.

Main duties of the job

As a Practice Nurse, you will:

  • Deliver childhood and adult immunisations in line with PGDs
  • Administer B12, Prostap, Zoladex, Testosterone, Shingles, Tetanus, and other vaccines/injections
  • Run childhood immunisation clinics, including stock ordering and checks
  • Carry out drug checks, including emergency and resus equipment
  • Support chronic disease management clinics (e.g. COPD, asthma, diabetes)
  • Work independently, managing your own clinics and workload effectively
  • Stay up to date with nursing guidelines and share learning with the team

  • 2 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 1 GP Registrar, 1 FY2 Doctor
  • 2 Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 HCSW, and a Practice Care Facilitator

  • An active Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Practice Nurse will work as part of the primary care team to provide safe evidence-based and high-quality nursing care to patients.

The role involves delivering a wide range of nursing services supporting health promotion and disease prevention and contributing to the smooth running of the practice.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Clinical Care

Deliver childhood and adult immunisations in line with national schedules and local policy.

Provide chronic disease management and reviews including:

Diabetes

Asthma

COPD

Hypertension

Cardiovascular disease

Undertake cervical cytology in accordance with national guidelines.

Provide wound care and dressings including suture removal.

Provide contraceptive advice and conduct contraception reviews.

Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including vaccinations and medications safe sex food hygiene and sun protection

Assist in the provision of minor surgery and contraceptive implants.

Carry out phlebotomy ECGs blood pressure monitoring and other relevant clinical procedures.

Assess, plan implement and evaluate evidence based nursing care for individuals and groups.

Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment

Governance & Safety

Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.

Maintain the cold chain for vaccines and medicines.

Ensure accurate timely and high-standard clinical documentation.

Follow practice policies national guidelines and NMC standards of practice.

Work in line with safeguarding policies for adults and children.

Safely manage medicines vaccines and clinical equipment.

Professional Standards

Respect patient confidentiality at all times.

Work within the scope of professional practice and seek support when needed.

Participate in audit quality improvement and clinical governance activities.

Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and mandatory training.
