Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our busy GP practice team. You will play a vital role in supporting the safe and effective delivery of medicines management, patient care, and clinical services within the practice.

We are looking for either:

  • One full-time, experienced Pharmacy Technician to work across two sites, or
  • Two part-time Pharmacy Technicians, hours negotiable.

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and proactive professional to make a real impact on patient care.

The Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist supporting the GPs, Clinical pharmacist and Dispensary. As an integrated part of the primary care team you will ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients. The role will contribute to successful clinical management of patients and is shared across two practices.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities:

To undertake a variety of duties, including managing repeat prescription requests, resolving queries within your span of control and providing prescriptions for clinical review and signature

  • Working in conjunction with the nominated Clinicians who support Nursing Homes in the area.
  • Updating dates following medication reviews.
  • Facilitate and documenting correct addition & or removal of medications upon receipt of discharge summaries, secondary care or community clinic letters.
  • Updating repeat medication lists, including changes such as synchronising quantities and removing medications not ordered within a defined period.
  • Changing acute medications to repeat where appropriate- e.g. A new medication that a GP/Pharmacist Prescriber has commenced and there is subsequently evidence for the need for the item on a repeat basis and necessary tests/checks have confirmed this.
  • Working in the Dispensary (at Heywood Family Practice) if required.
  • Support Medicines Optimisation agenda items such as the Prescribing Quality Incentive Scheme, cost saving, Quality and Outcomes Framework indicators, MHRA Alerts and Medicines Safety work in conjunction with the rest of the Pharmacy Team.

Working to ensure processes are optimised to achieve highly effective, safe and patient centred care. You will support the GPs, Clinical Pharmacist and Dispensary (at Heywood Family Practice) in delivering a safe, high performing; effective, sustainable, innovative person centred medical service.

The post-holder will develop good working relationships with:

  • Patients
  • GP, nurses and other practice staff
  • Other local practices clinical pharmacists
  • Community pharmacists and support staff
  • Hospital staff with responsibilities for prescribing and medicines optimisation
  • Members of the ICBs medicines management team.

Communication

  • Able to confidentially utilise a variety of communication methods to disseminate information to large numbers of people.
  • Adapt communication style and content to reflect different type of people when making contact.
  • Ability to receive complex, sensitive or contentious information and process appropriately.
  • Promote positivity and effective working relationships with commissioners, other health care providers and other key health care providers and other key partners to support an integrated approach to high quality patient care
