Job summary

A Practice Nurse plays a key role within a General Practice, delivering highquality, patientcentred nursing care as part of the primary care team. They work closely with GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Assistants, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to support the health and wellbeing of the practice population

Treatment room duties:Wound management and dressings

Ear irrigation

ECGs

Urinalysis

Cervical screening (if trained)

Immunisations:Childhood vaccinations

Travel vaccines

Seasonal flu & COVID19 vaccinations

Health checks and assessments:NHS Health Checks

Wellwoman and wellman clinics

Smoking cessation advice

Weight management and lifestyle interventions

Quality & Safety

Maintain accurate clinical records in line with practice policies

Follow infection control standards

Participate in audits, QOF, and clinical governance activities

Support safeguarding processes for adults and children

1. Chronic Disease Management

Provide structured reviews for long term conditions such as:

  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Develop personalised care plans and provide patient education.
  • 2. Treatment Room Duties
  • Wound assessment and management
  • Dressings and suture removal
  • Ear irrigation
  • ECG recording
  • Urinalysis
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Contraceptive advice (nonprescribing)
  • 3. Immunisation & Vaccination
  • Childhood immunisations
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Seasonal flu and COVID19 vaccinations
  • Adult vaccinations as per national schedules4. Health Screening & Preventative Care
  • Cervical cytology (if trained)NHS Health Checks
