TWNS PCN

Pharmacy Technician (1 day or 2 mornings per week)

The closing date is 09 December 2025

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a registered pharmacy technician to join our Newent practice, which forms part of the well-established TWNS PCN award winning pharmacy team. The 5 practices are already experienced in working with clinical pharmacists and technicians and this role provides a great opportunity to join an experienced team as well as have access to national training through the NHSE Clinical training pathway. You will work closely with the clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, GPs, Community Pharmacists, Reception teams and other health professionals to promote the safe, effective and high quality, cost effective use of medicines.

We are looking for candidates with previous primary care experience who are team players, enthusiastic and adaptable to change, with a good level of competence in use of IT. This post will be based at Newent and is for 7.5 hours per week which can be worked as one day or 2 half days.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines through effective medicines reconciliation after discharge and on other transfers of care, medication reviews, identification of patients suitable for electronic repeat dispensing, promotion of online ordering, providing assurance of monitoring of high risk drugs, and handling of prescription queries within the areas of competence. This is not exhaustive of the potential candidates role in general practice, where we will use individual skills to complement and develop the work undertaken in the team.

Key skills and qualifications vital for this role are: being GPhC registered, experience in GP practice, a team player and also able to work independently and recognising limitations, having attention to detail, able to work accurately, identifying errors quickly and easily, excellent verbal and written communication skills, organisational and prioritisation skills, flexibility and adaptability to the needs of practices and work pressures.

About us

TWNS PCN has 5 practices based in Newent, Staunton, West Cheltenham and 2 in Tewkesbury. We are led by proactive and forward thinking GPs and Business Managers who have recognised the benefit the pharmacy team can give to general practice and have worked to grow and develop the team since it was established in 2016, being early adopters through the National Pilot of Clinical Pharmacists in GP practice. The Pharmacy team were proud Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2018 winners of the "Excellence in GP Practice" award and finalists for "Pharmacy Team of the Year" in the General Practice Awards 2022. We place our technicians in one practice for continuity and to enable effective integration within the practice teams, but we meet regularly to ensure that processes are similar between surgeries and support each other. This post will be based in Newent.

If you would like further information and/or to arrange an informal discussion about the role, please e-mail Jackie Aberdeen
