Job summary
JOB SUMMARY
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary health care team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced Registered Nurse and in addition any roles agreed between the nurses and doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.
Clinically, the focus of the role is the delivery of evidenced based practice for patients with long-term conditions, management and preventative interventions to all patients. As an autonomous practitioner the nurse is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision making. They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team framework to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policies and procedures and providing leadership and direction for the nursing team.
Main duties of the job
Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions
Advise on health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Facilitates change.
Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines.
Ensures awareness of statutory and local safeguarding procedures, incl. systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
Perform a holistic assessment of Pts attending for cervical smear tests.
Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines.
Ability to perform suture removal, and other treatment room functions including ECG, CPR etc.
Support the management of Pts with Long Term Conditions
Requesting pathology tests, e.g. urine culture, swabs
Offer a holistic approach to travel health, providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel incl. vaccinations, medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection
Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines
Ability to obtain and document informed consent, either verbal or written.
Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock, refrigeration and emergency equipment.
