Phlebotomist - GP Surgery (15 hours a week)

Job summary

Granville House Medical Centre are looking to expand and have an opportunity for a part-time skilled phlebotomist to join the team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated team player who is willing to develop the role within our team and contribute to delivering an effective phlebotomy service for our patients.

The role is initially offered on a fixed-term contract of 12 months, with the possibility of extension contingent upon the continuation of funding.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for taking blood samples from patients, ensuring accurate labelling and handling and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

They will work closely with GP's and Nurses to ensure the efficient and effective provision of high- quality patient care to our patient population.

It is essential that the post holder has excellent communication and time-management skills and a patient centred approach.

Granville House Medical Centre is well established training GP practice located in Adlington.

Serving 8100 patients, our team is made up of 3 full time GP Partners, 2 x Salaried GP's and an experienced nursing and administration team who care about the well-being of each patient and work together to create a positive and supportive practice environment for both patients and team members.

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities include

Provide a safe, accessible phlebotomy service to our practice population.

Perform venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients following clinical protocols.

Label, store and prepare specimens for transportation and laboratory testing.

Ensure patients feel at ease and managing anxious patients professionally.

Maintain accurate records of patient consultations and specimen collections, ensuring patient identification checked at all times.

Follow infection control and safety protocols to ensure a sterile environment, including proper disposal of sharps and other waste.

Manage and maintain stocks and supplies and relevant ordering, ensuring all necessary equipment is readily available.

Administrative responsibilities include

Attend and participate in practice meetings.

Stay updated with guidelines and best practice and attend training as required.

Participate in practice audit as directed.

Assist with administration duties such as scheduling appointments, patient searches and updating patient records.

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.

Support shared learning within the practice.

May be required to complete opening/closing procedures.

Additional ad-hoc tasks as required.
