Job summary

We have a great opportunity for a dedicated and motivated newly qualified GP colleague to work in our supportive and friendly training practice.

The postholder must be within 2 years of completing their CCT and without prior substantive GP employment.

We are a stable three partner team and training practice for both GP registrars and medical students, and regularly receive excellent feedback from these posts.

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

The post will be 2 sessions per week, initially a fixed term contract until 31st March 2026 with potential for extension.

Main duties of the job

You will perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within the primary care setting. You will provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues whilst maintaining clinical excellence and will be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct, ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical responsibilities

The post-holder will be available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing counselling and health education.

Managing your patient caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Ensure Service is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence, and to acknowledge limitations.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Work collaboratively with practice team, including nursing staff, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, and other ARRS roles. Contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the team and work colleagues

Works with local policies and procedures.

Collecting data for audit purposes.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

The post-holder will be required to visit patients during surgery time if clinically indicated.

Able to develop own knowledge and clinical practice to meet objectives and changes in service.

Manage own time, workload and resources effectively.

A commitment to learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines.
