Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to undertake the role of Practice Nurse to work 30 to 37 hours. Experience of working in a GP Practice is not essential as full training, supervision and mentoring will be provided.
Assessment and management of minor illness may be required in the future, only when all basic practice nurse training has been successfully completed.
Working days will be over Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday an this will include two 6pm finishes. Thursday and Fridays are essential and non negotiable.
Main duties of the job
To offer high quality and excellent standards of care to all our patients.
This will include Phlebotomy, Cervical Cytology screening, Family planning, Child Health/ Travel Immunisations, Wound Management as well as other general treatment room duties.
The role requires the individual to work in a compassionate, organised, self-motivated manner and be confident working independently as well as part of a team.
As with all Registered Nurse roles it is essential that the successful candidate is able to demonstrate a consistent level of interpersonal and communication skills as well as maintain their own skills and competence as a Registered Nurse in order for them to work safely, legally and ethically whilst recognising and respecting the cultural, emotional and diverse needs of others.
The role requires the individual to maintain strict standards of confidentiality, to be adept at computer record keeping- currently System One (training can/will be given).
To be able to adopt a flexible attitude and adapt to changes of service provision as needed as well as offer support to colleagues as required whilst working within national and local guidelines, protocols and policies.
About us
St Thomas Road Surgery is based in Featherstone, West Yorkshire. We currently have approximately 6300 patients and we are part of the Wakefield North Primary Care Network. We currently have 4 GP's, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacist, 3 Healthcare Assistants, Pharmacy Technician, Paramedic, Patient Care Co-ordinator and a very supportive team of Manager and administrative/reception staff. We are a training practice for Registrars and FY2 doctors.

Long Term Condition/Chronic Disease Management such as Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Hypertension reviews as well as Mental health and Learning disability annual reviews.
Treatment room skills such as wound care, suture/ clip removal, assisting with minor operations, ECGs, Peak flow monitoring and performing Spirometry.
Contraceptive consultations and awareness of relevant safeguarding issues that may present.
Care of stock and stock rotation maintaining the cold chain in terms of refrigerated items. Reporting issues promptly.
Participate in immunisation and vaccination programmes such as the childhood vaccination programme, annual flu roll out, the Covid 19 vaccination programme as well as travel consultations and vaccinations.
Implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients with a known long-term condition.
Identify patients at risk of developing a long-term condition and manage as support as required on an individual basis.
Awareness of and adherence to the Quality and Outcomes Framework, Patient Group Directives as well as both local and national commissioned services.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical nursing care provided to patients.
Work independently within existing competence and training. Have an awareness of one's own limitations and seek advice as appropriate. Document care as per NMC guidance. Patient clinical records are required to be clear, honest and accurate.
Actively engage patients and carers in the management of their health.
Health and wellbeing promotion. Actively promote available services to patients in order to provide timely, holistic and individual care.
Contribute to clinical governance activities within the team such as audit of care and services in order to maintain high standards of care within the practice. Attend and participate in the practice clinical meetings.
Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control at all times protecting patients, self and colleagues.
Delegate clearly and appropriately, adopting the principles of safe practice and assessment of competence of those taking on delegated duties.
Attend mandatory training and updates as required.
Awareness of safeguarding policies and procedures.
