General Practitioner Assistant (GPA)

Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic GP Assistant (GPA) to join our friendly and support team at Cam and Uley Family Practice. This exciting role is designed to supportive GPs in delivering high quality, efficient patient care by reducing administrative burdens and enhancing the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of a GP or other healthcare professional, the GPA will undertake a range of duties, including

  • retrieving and filing medical records and letters
  • processing pathology samples and updating results on the clinical system
  • managing GP paperwork and referrals
  • assisting with call and recall systems, chronic disease reviews and audits

Cam and Uley Family Practice is a four-partner general practice located on the edge of the Cotswolds, serving a population of approx 11,000 patients. Cam is the main larger site with a small branch surgery in the village of Uley which is 4 miles away.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions

Signposting post to other healthcare professionals, eg pharmacist

Processing clinical letters:

  • extracting all information from clinical letters that require coding and adding to medical record

Filing of normal blood results, following strict practice protocol

Participation in clinical audit and other quality improvement activity

Attendance at clinical meetings, including provision of agendas, minute keeping and ensuring actions are completed/followed up where required

Completing basic (non-opinion) forms including forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefit agency forms
