Job summary

South Reading and Shinfield Group Medical Practice is a long established large GP Practice, rated GOOD in all categories by CQC. The Practice is located across two sites in South Reading. Our friendly, professional and experienced GPs, extended range of HCPs and administrative teams offering a wide range of clinical services.

A vacancy has arisen for a 37.5 hour per week healthcare assistant at our busy GP surgery in to work alongside the clinical team.

You need to be able to work effectively within a busy team as well as independently and have good communication skills, and ideally have experience with EMIS Web.

We offer NHS pension and a competitive salary.

Salary dependent on experience.

No agencies will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The role consists of a range of skills, including but not limited to:

Vital Signs (pulse, blood pressure, height, weight etc)

Phlebotomy - Candidates must be trained with some experience

ECG monitoring including 12 lead

NHS Health Checks

Injections such as B12

Flu vaccinations

Diabetic reviews including foot checks

Mental Health reviews

Wound care

{This is not an exhaustive list}

As a minimum, candidates must be trained and competent Phlebotomists, and ideally have General Practice experience with as many of the skills highlighted above.

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

New patient health checks

BP

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Dressings and Wound Care

Seasonal Influenza Vaccines

Vitamin B12 Injections

Health and weight checks

Working to PSD's

Chronic Disease Checks

Immunisations - Pneumonia, Shingles.

Ordering/Replenishment of medical supplies

Administrative Duties (following practice protocols, coding in medical records)
