Deer Park Family Medical Practice is looking to recruit an energetic dedicated Practice Nurse to add to our longstanding nursing team.

Main duties of the job

Ideally we would like to recruit an experienced nurse with experience in chronic disease management, childhood immunisation, cytology and travel health - but application from those who are new to general practice and need training are also welcomed. The ideal candidate will have high personal organisation and be driven to learn and improve.

About us

We are a traditional and supportive, partner led, practice based in Wollaton. We are adjacent to Wollaton Park with low deprivation and excellent schools. Our 10500 patients are covered by a team of 2 partners, 7 salaried GPs, 2 practice nurses and 2 health care assistants. We have on site clinical pharmacist, mental health worker and physiotherapist cover via our PCN. Our senior partner is Deputy Director of the PCN. We have a friendly supportive environment and very low staff turnover.

The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.
  • Cytology
  • Wound care / ulcer care

The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
  • Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process, including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements.
  • Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice including provision, ordering, availability, and ongoing correct usage by staff.
