Job summary

We are looking for a GP for 6-8 sessions who would currently like a salaried post but may be interested in partnership in the future. We encourage and support all our staff including Salaried GPs to develop their skills and expertise; if you have an area you are interested in we would love to hear about it.

Main duties of the job

As a GP at Barnby Gate you will work with the MDT to provide acute and routine care for our patients; we will also encourage you to develop specialist interests to enable you to provide additional services to our patients.

You will be supported by an excellent admin team which includes GP Assistants and back office staff who will help make your day run smoothly.

About us

We are a friendly, well organised practice in the pretty market town of Newark. We look after nearly 14,000 patients with our multidisciplinary team which includes prescribing nurses, pharmacists and a paramedic. We are a training practice and as well as registrars we host a wide range of other students including nurses and pharmacists.

A standard day will have:

31 patient contacts, telephone or face to face and a mix of 10 and 15 minute appointments

A 20 minute meeting for an informal discussion with GP colleagues

Home visits average 1-2 per week

Administration time

In each session one GP is allocated 20 minutes to support the Care Navigators with any queries they may have.

You may be required to supervise trainee or junior colleagues; you will be allocated time in your rota to do this.

An on call day will have:

Expectation that you will be available, but not necessarily on site from 0800-1830.

Maximum of 35 patient contacts

Triaging of calls from EMAS, social services and requests for home visits

Urgent results if requesting GP is not in

Enhanced Access

You will be expected to take part in the enhanced access rota which is currently on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1830 to 2000. We are reviewing our provision of enhanced access and may wish to vary this to include Saturday working.

Administrative Work

Administrative work is allocated on the basis of usual GP. Patients are allocated proportionately on the number of sessions worked.

Results will be sent to the requesting clinician to review.

The practice runs a buddy system where GPs are paired up to cover each others urgent work during annual leave.

Meetings

Attendance at MDT, Complaints, SEA, and Safeguarding meetings during your working sessions is important and time will be allocated on the rota for this. For attendance required outside of your normal working hours, you will be paid at your normal hourly rate for these hours.

CPD Time

You are entitled to 1 week, pro rata, each year for CPD. Part of this entitlement is required for in-house training and development incorporating PLT afternoons and mandatory online learning. We have allocated 40 hours for afternoon PLT during which PLT and mandatory online training should be undertaken. If it is not possible to undertake your online learning within this allocated time, further CPD time can be booked using the remaining CPD entitlement.
