Job responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our friendly and supportive team here at the Morris House Group Practice. GPAs provide a support role, carrying out administrative tasks, combined with basic clinical duties. They focus on supporting General Practitioners and the wider clinical team in their day-to-day management of patients, specifically aimed at reducing the administrative burden and enabling clinicians to make the best use of clinical time. The post holder will be an integral part of our primary care team by contributing to the smooth running of the surgery.
Job Responsibilities
Sorting all clinical incoming clinical documents and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting documents to other members of the teams such as clinical pharmacist etc.
- Extracting information from clinical documents that needs coding and adding to notes.
- Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP by taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
- Reviewing online consultations submitted by patients and actioning as directed by the GP.
- Assisting with clinical procedures such as administering injections, dipping urine, taking blood pressure & phlebotomy.
- Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as referrals, insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
- Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.
- Advising patients regarding improving health outcomes as and when appropriate.
- Engaging in practice projects, including active participation in annual Quality of Framework (QOF) preparation and delivery.
