Job summary
The post holder will be a registered nurse who aspires to work in Primary Care. The hours of work are 30 per week with a Diabetes Diploma preferred. There will also be a requirement to engage in other Practice Nurse duties.

Practice Nurse duties such as vaccination programmes, cervical cytology, wound care and long term conditions etc.

JOB TITLE - PRACTICE NURSE
REPORTS TO - GP PARTNERS (Clinically)
PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)
HOURS: 30 hours per week
Job Summary:
The Practice Nurse will work closely with nursing colleagues and GPs to provide a high standard of primary care health services to its patients. These services will be delivered in accordance with national and local guidelines and legislation and Manor Court Surgery policies.
Job Responsibilities -
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs
Assessment of new symptoms, treatment of major/minor illnesses and referral to doctor for management of more serious conditions;
Assessments of injuries, treatment of minor injuries, referral to doctor for management of more severe injuries;
- Recording temperature, pulse rate and blood pressure as required for the management of illness;
Health promotion and health education in respect of smoking cessation, obesity, diet and exercise;
Chronic disease management of Hypertension, Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, CKD, Heart Disease, Stroke, Hypothyroidism, Epilepsy and other chronic conditions routinely managed by practice nurses
Learning disability health checks
- Cervical Cytology
- Wound care / Ulcer care / Doppler
- Removal of Sutures
- Urinalysis
- Travel Vaccinations
- ECG recording
- Ear syringing
- Routine vaccinations and immunisations / Childhood immunisations
- Family Planning - depo-provera injections and contraceptive pill review
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings in absence of HCA
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Where/if necessary, basic life support
Other duties routinely undertaken by practice nurses.
Other tasks will include
- Infection control activities - maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Maintaining all stock levels including vaccinations within nurse clinical rooms
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- Maintain accurate records to support patient care and practice targets related to QOF and local/direct enhanced services
- Advise other nurses and GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

To maintain and develop professional knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure that practice reflects best practice, remains evidence based, is current and responsive to meet changing patient and NHS service needs.
