Northern Moor Medical Practice is excited to announce a new opportunity for a GP Assistant to join our dedicated team. This role is designed to support GPs and other clinicians with day-to-day administrative tasks, helping to enhance the quality and efficiency of patient care.

Provide vital support during patient appointments
Manage clinical documentation and administrative duties
Assist with minor clinical procedures
Support residents in care homes to improve health outcomes and service experiences

Main duties of the job
To support GPs and the wider clinical team by providing a combination of administrative and basic clinical assistance, helping to improve efficiency, enhance patient care, and reduce GP workload. The GP Assistant acts as a bridge between administrative and clinical functions, contributing to a smooth-running practice.

As a GP Assistant at Northern Moor Medical Practice, your role will be varied and impactful, supporting both clinical and administrative functions to enhance patient care. Responsibilities include:
Clinical Documentation & Coding
Extract relevant information from clinical letters and accurately code and record it in patient notes.
Patient Coordination
Arrange appointments, referrals, diagnostic tests, and follow-up visits to ensure seamless patient journeys.
Pre-Consultation Preparation
Welcome patients and take brief histories and basic observations (e.g. blood pressure, temperature) to prepare them for their GP appointment.
Basic Clinical Procedures
Perform tasks such as urine dip testing, blood pressure measurement, ECGs, and phlebotomy.
Care Home Support
Assist care home residents and their carers in preparing for Annual Health Checks, encouraging active participation in their healthcare.
Form Completion
Complete non-clinical sections of forms (e.g. insurance, mortgage, benefits) for GP review and signature.
Patient Communication
Explain treatment procedures clearly and compassionately to patients.
Agency Liaison
Help GPs communicate with external agencies, such as contacting on-call doctors or arranging hospital admissions.
Clinical Assistance
Support GPs with immunisations and wound care procedures.
Room Maintenance
Ensure clinical rooms are well-stocked and ready for use.
Health Promotion
Actively promote health programmes and initiatives within the practice and wider community.
Professional Development
Work towards achieving the GPA Competency Framework Level 2, supporting your growth and effectiveness in the role.
