Job summary
We have a vacancy for a Medical Receptionist in a busy, friendly, GP practice. Applicants must be reliable and punctual, have good communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Previous experience in General Practice preferred but not essential. Full training will be provided.
Hours per week will be a mixture of mornings and afternoons over a 5 day period.
Main duties of the job
To ensure smooth running of the telephone system, answering calls courteously and in an efficient manner.
Booking of appointments with the Doctors, Practice Nurses and other professionals.
Ensure that patients are received politely and are dealt with efficiently, providing them with any information they may require.
Respect patients needs to relay information in a confidential manner and respond accordingly
Register new, amend where necessary and transfer patients manual and computerised records
File and retrieve patient records as requested.
Record any request for home visits and ensure that the doctor is informed of all requests
Ensure that prescriptions are issued in conjunction with the practice policy on repeat and urgent prescriptions.
All messages must be logged and recorded, ensuring that the relevant member of staff is informed in a timely fashion.
Photocopying / faxing as and when required
Any other duties that the post may require.

Bucklands End Lane Surgery is a General Practice Partnership open to all patients living within our Practice boundary in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham and the surrounding areas. We work in partnership with our patients to provide medical care for our patients.
We are a General Medical Services (GMS) Practice offering Primary care services for the diagnosis and prevention of disease. We help patients to manage their health and prevent illness. Our GPs assess, diagnose, treat and manage illness and aim to provide Holistic Care. They carry out screening for some diseases and promote general health and wellbeing. Our GPs act as a patients advocate, supporting and representing a patients best interests to ensure they receive the best and most appropriate health and/or social care. Our GPs also provide the link to further health services and work closely with other healthcare professionals. They may also arrange hospital admissions and referrals to other services and specialists and they link with secondary and community services about patient care, taking advice and sharing information where needed.
