Job summary

General Practice Assistant (GPA), is required to support the smooth running of clinics by performing more routine administration tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities

  • Processing medication requests
  • Workflow of incoming documents, coding and extracting information from clinical letters to add to patient records
  • Determining whether or not letters should be forwarded to a Clinical Pharmacist or GP for actioning.
  • Arranging appointments
  • Arranging tests and follow up appointments
  • Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefit agency forms etc.
  • Supporting with QOF reviews

About us

We are a rural practice located in Warboys with a practice list size of 7,500 patients.

Our team consists of 4 GP partners, 1 salaried GP, 2 ANPs, 5 receptionists, 3 dispensers, 1 care coordinator, 1 social prescribing link worker, 4 nurses and 3 health care assistants.

Many members of our team have been with the practice for a very long time.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience
  • Proven experience in a similar role within Primary Care, with at least one year's experience
  • Able to take on the responsibility and have the confidence for determining which documents can be completed without having to forward them to a Clinical Pharmacist
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working as an effective member of the team
  • Previous knowledge of SystmOne
