Job summary
We are looking
for a enthusiastic healthcare assistant to join our large forward-thinking,
friendly nursing department. Healthcare
assistants provide an important service for our patients, carrying out
procedures and supporting patients to live healthier lives.
The healthcare assistants also support the delivery of
the service by providing administrative support, such as ordering clinical
supplies.
The healthcare assistants work primarily at the
Practice, but may be required visit patients at home.
The
postholder will report to the Nursing Team Leader.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a phlebotomy service (by direct clinician
referral or practice invitation).
- Ensure test samples are appropriately labelled and
packaged for transportation to the laboratory.
- Liaise with the laboratory, acting as first contact
for day-to-day test queries.
- Carry out health screening and measurements,
including: blood pressure; weight; height and body mass index; urinalysis;
pulse rate and rhythm; ECG.
- Carry out patient health checks, including health
screening and measurements, and recording previous medical history, family
history and current medications.
- Provide education and health promotion to patients as
appropriate.
- Act as a chaperone for other clinicians.
- Collect lifestyle data from patients, including
smoking status, alcohol consumption and physical activity.
- Refer the patient to another clinician when
appropriate.
- Report any observed changes in the patients condition
or behaviour, or any other cause for concern, to an appropriate clinician.
- Assist the clinical staff where appropriate.
- Provide services to patients at home when appropriate.
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and correctly coded records to relevant
professional and Practice standards and guidelines.
- Carry out additional health screening and
measurements.
- Have
a basic understanding of long-term conditions including diagnostic
interventions, treatments and the principles of care and self-management.

The post is part-time
(22.5 hours per week) and will be mostly based at The Robert Darbishire
Practice, although you will also need to be able to travel to our other sites
as needed. The usual working hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 09:00
17:00.
Salary will be in
the range £24,937 to £26,598 pro rata (full-time is 37.5 hours), depending on experience. We
offer membership of the NHS Pension Scheme and 5.4-6.6 weeks' holiday
(depending on NHS service) plus bank holidays (pro rata). (The post is not
subject to Agenda for Change terms and conditions.)
