An exciting opportunity
has arisen for a part-time Healthcare Assistant to join our busy and friendly
nursing team at Filey Surgery. We are looking to
recruit a proactive, and positive individual who will be required to deliver high quality, compassionate healthcare within their scope of practice and responsibility. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, following standards, policies or protocols and always acting within the limits of their capability. You will be a caring and dedicated professional
who is flexible and able to work independently under minimal supervision.
Our
Practice Team members support the extended access rota and as such you will be
required on occasion to work evening or weekend shifts.
The working hours for this post are between 26 - 28 hrs per week to be worked over 3 days.
Main duties of the job
You are expected to
undertake tasks such as Phlebotomy, INR monitoring, BP monitoring, ECG's, wound
management & vaccinations.
The post holder will
need to have or work towards an NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care. Experience
in General Practice is desirable.

Job responsibilities
The
following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may
be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent
upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Support
the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
-
Carry
out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature
and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
-
Facilitate
routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
-
Undertake
wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
-
Support
the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
-
Carry
out BMI checks as directed
-
Act
as a chaperone as required
- Undertake phlebotomy
-
When
trained, administer seasonal vaccinations
- When trained, administer B12 injections
-
Carry
out ECGs as requested
-
Ensure
specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
-
Provide
support during minor operations as required
-
Ensure
all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
-
Ensure
fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
-
Ensure
clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in
accordance with the organisations IPC policy
-
Deliver
opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
In addition to the primary responsibilities,
the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:

Participate
in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

Participate
in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
-
Support
and participate in shared learning within the organisation

- Care Certificate or equivalent
- Phlebotomy certification
- Understanding of and ability to perform ECG's
- Ability to undertake patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse and BMI etc

- Wound Care Diploma/Qualification (Inc. suture/staple removal)
