Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team as a medical receptionist. You need to be able to work as part of the team, punctual, flexible (core hours are between 8am and 18.45) and able to work under pressure at times.

Main duties of the job

Answer calls

Care navigate patients to the most appropriate service

Prioritise workload

Computer literate (ideally S1)

Register patients

Managing tasks

Arranging ambulance transport

Liaise with other medical professions

Booking appointments

We are a friendly GP training practice with over 13200 patients. The team is made up from 5 GP partners, 5 Salaried GP, 2 ANP's, 1 ACP 4 Practice Nurses, 4 HCAs, Experienced Admin team

Job description

Job responsibilities

Be capable of covering all reception tasks as needed. Appointments Process and triage appointment requests for same-day and future appointments via patchs, telephone, or in person.

Handle visit requests efficiently. Improve patient access to primary care and help reduce pressure on GPs.

Provide clear, accurate information about the full range of services available both inside and outside the Practice, enabling patients to make informed choices. Act as a first point of contact for patients, directing them to the most appropriate source of help at the right time, in the right place, and with the right person or organisation. Computer and Administrative Tasks Use the Practice computer system to book, cancel or amend appointments, check patient information, and update patient records as necessary. Action tasks assigned to the reception team promptly.

Handle general enquiries, explain procedures and schedule new or follow-up appointments.

Process online appointment requests via Patchs. Use judgement and communication skills to manage patients without prior appointments who require urgent consultation, ensuring minimal disruption.

Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients or those seeking temporary cover, ensuring all necessary procedures are completed.

Advise patients about letters and form requests, checking ID to maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and Practice guidance.
