Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a full-time or part-time Nurse Associate to complement our existing clinical team of GPs, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, Pharmacists & Registrars.

The successful applicant will work closely with our Nursing team to provide high-quality care to our practice population.

Candidates must be enthusiastic, caring & patient focused, & share our passion for patient care & wellbeing.

Full training will be provided for all aspects involved in the role to aide personal development & increase competencies as required.

Main duties of the job

To deliver nursing care to the level of your competencies, which ideally will include phlebotomy, immunisations & some disease management to begin with.

We will work with you to develop any areas requiring further training, for example cytology screening.

About us

The Docs is a friendly city centre NHS GP surgery located in Manchester's Gay Village.

We serve a population of over 14,000 city centre residents & expect this to continue rising with the completion of many residential developments in Manchester.

We completed a full refurbishment of the surgery in late 2023 including the addition of two new floors, & began occupancy at a shared surgery site within the city (New Jackson Medical Centre) to help cater for the ever increasing city centre population.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The job role includes, but is not restricted to, the following duties:

  • To assist & perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care, such as routine BP checks, ECG, suture & clip removal, BMI & lifestyle advice, as directed & agreed with line manager, registered general nurses & GPs

  • To implement agreed wound care plans, following local & national evidence-based guidelines, inclusive of the treatment of minor traumatic wounds within own level of competency

  • To recognise any deterioration of wounds or infection & arrange early review with PN/GP or specialist as required

  • To support the RGN with the holistic assessment & planning of wound care plans for patients with chronic and acute wounds

  • To support patients to improve & maintain their mental, physical, behavioural health & wellbeing by using behaviour change interventions, such as undertaking health checks (physical & mental), smoking cessation services

  • To support the RGN with the holistic assessment & planning of wound care plans for patients with chronic & acute wounds

  • Carry out Chronic Disease Management annual reviews delegated by the Practice Nurse or senior colleague

  • Support the Practice Nurse with the management of patients with long-term conditions/chronic diseases, using a holistic patient centred approach

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the Practice Nurse GP or other member of the Primary Health Care Team

  • Be able to undertake baseline observations & identify signs of improvement, report any deteriorations or concerns, e.g. pulse, blood pressure, respirations, oxygen saturations, peak flow, spirometry, blood glucose levels, ECG, assessing nutrition & hydration, participate in screening programmes & Annual Reviews for example in patients with Learning Disabilities

  • Perform cervical smear screening on completion of additional training as guidance RCN Position Statement on Registered Nursing Associates (RNAs) training in cervical sample taking

  • Administer medications as prescribed & in accordance with NMC standards e.g. via nebuliser or injections using subcutaneous or intramuscular route under Patient Specific Directions

  • Following agreed protocols with referral to Practice Nurse or GPs as appropriate assist in the assessment, planning, development implementation & evaluation of programmes to promote health & well-being, & prevent adverse effects on health and well-being

  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new patient medicals & NHS health checks

  • Document consultations accurately & appropriately, according to NMC guideline

  • Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical adult & children safeguarding protection procedures, including systems of referral

  • Ability to recognise signs & symptoms of abuse/neglect

  • Ensure infection prevention and control guidelines are maintained

  • To be responsible for providing the appropriate nursing evidenced based care of an allocated group of patients

  • Be an accountable professional who is responsible for their actions, working in line with NMC standards of proficiency

  • Recognise & work within the limits of their competency

  • To work as part of multidisciplinary team using resources efficiently

  • To deliver quality care to patients and to work effectively within the nursing team
