Mythe Medical Practice based in Tewkesbury have an opening for a 2 session a week GP looking to join under the Retained GP Scheme

This post is ideal for a GP who wishes to maintain and develop their skills in general practice but, due to personal circumstances (e.g. caring responsibilities, health, portfolio work), is unable to commit to a full or larger part time role.

Main duties of the job

Salaried GP - NHS retained GP scheme - 2 sessions per week on a Wednesday, preferably.

some duty sessions on a pro rata basis.

About us

Our 9 GPs (6 partners and 3 salaried) are supported by a wider clinical team comprising of 2 nurse practitioners, 5 practice nurses, 3 HCAs and 2 part time clinical pharmacists. The administrative and management team is made up of long-standing staff with a varied and strong administrative and management wealth of experience and knowledge, including nursing specialist trained in chronic disease management, QOF recalls management team and a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

We are a training practice hosting up to 3 GP registrars at any one time and we are currently supporting 2 medical students from Three Counties Medical School.

Our internal focus is on wellbeing of our staff, achieved with various protected learning events, staff wellbeing sessions (such as yoga run by one of our salaried GPs), regular meetings sharing clinical knowledge and providing support to colleagues.

We are committed to safe and sustainable workloads, focusing on good worklife balance and supporting colleagues to stay in general practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

A Salaried GP works as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care while complying with the contract.

Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

The role is to support, mentor, and supervise other healthcare professionals within the organisation and be an integral part of the general practice team.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP in delivering health services.

a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

b. The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract

c. To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines

d. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

e. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care

f. Effective management of long-term conditions

g. To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care

h. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

i. Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways

j. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance

k. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

l. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

m. Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans

n. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice

o. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF

p. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required

q. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training
