Phlebotomist Post

Major Oak Medical Practice is looking for a flexible, enthusiastic
and self-motivated Phlebotomist to join our dedicated and professional team.
This is a part time post for 20 hours per week Monday to Friday. Salary is dependent
on experience.

Main duties of the job
- Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and practice protocols
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Maintaining accurate patient records on SystmOne
- To undertake venepuncture and observations including blood pressure, urinalysis, height, weight and BMI, temperature, take ear, throat and skin swabs as directed by the GP/practice nurse, etc..
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
- Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Sherwood Forest Hospital Trust
- Provide smoking support by signposting to local smoking cessation services.
- Carrying out daily cleaning of GPs rooms as per daily schedule.
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Carrying out monthly checks of the medication cupboard ensuring enough stock is stored and are kept in date
- Deal with spillages i.e. blood and bodily fluid.
- Assisting the GPs with chaperone duties.
- Action own tasks regularly without any delays
- Home visits if required
- Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
- Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
