Nursing Associate (PCN Employed)

Job summary

This is a Band 4 role supporting registered nurses and GPs in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. The role will include a combination of Nursing Associate responsibilities and clinical duties commonly undertaken by Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) in general practice, delivered in line with agreed protocols, competencies and scope of practice.

We are looking for a part-time NA who can work 22.5 hours across a 3-4 days week. We may offer some flexibility on working days or hours for the right candidate. As part of the PCNs Enhanced Access service, some Saturday working is required. This is shared across the team on a pro rata basis, usually around one in eight Saturdays.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake and gain competence in some or all of the following clinical work, as required by the Lead Nurse and in conjunction with the needs of the practice:
  • Undertake routine clinical procedures following appropriate training and assessment of competence, including:
  • Phlebotomy
  • Blood pressure monitoring and physiological observations
  • ECG recording
  • Height, weight and BMI measurement
  • Urinalysis and specimen handling
  • Support the delivery of chronic disease management clinics (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension) as delegated
  • Carry out NHS Health Checks and health promotion activities under protocol
  • Provide wound care and dressings within scope of practice
  • Administer vaccinations and immunisations where trained and authorised under PGDs/PSDs
  • Assist with cervical screening (if appropriately trained)

About us

Healthier West Wirral Primary Care Network is seeking a motivated and compassionate Nursing Associate (NA) to join our multidisciplinary team. While the post holder will be employed by the PCN, they will be aligned to Mrytle Group Practice working and fully embedded within the practice team, working closely with their staff and clinicians to deliver high quality patient care.

Myrtle Group was formed on 1st May 2024 following the successful merger of Heswall & Pensby Group Practice and Commonfield Road Surgery. Both sites have served their local population and patient list of approximately 22,5000 patients for over 40 years and we are proud to maintain a high QOF achievement and be CQC rated as 'Good in all areas'.

  • Liaise with Nursing Team when stores require ordering
  • Ensure that all stock is stored correctly as per COSHE regulations

Administrative& Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.
  • Ensure that all patient information following consultations, registration, and/or including telephone encounters are recorded accurately on the computer, using EMIS and READ CODE as appropriate
  • Attend and participate in practice nurse meetings as able.

Professional Development

  • Receive clinical supervision to further develop reflective skills resulting in increased clinical effectiveness in practice (dependent on organisational need)
  • Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
  • Ensure mandatory eLearning modules completed in a timely manner when due
