Job summary

We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who has experience of working in a GP Practice to join the team at Hawthorn Surgery.

Our aim is to always provide excellent care to our patient population.

The hours are negotiable. However flexibility is essential as you will be required to cover for holiday and sickness on occasions. Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant working in General practice is essential. An Enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

NHS Health checks

ECGs

BP monitoring

Urinalysis

Phlebotomy

Assisting with seasonal vaccination campaigns as required

Provide lifestyle advice

Weight monitoring

Restocking/maintaining equipment and clinical areas

Home visits

Long term condition reviews

Simple dressings

Administration and professional responsibilities

Ensure clinical system is kept up to date with accurate details

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation

Attend and participate in Practice meetings

Order and display health promotion materials

Management of medical records

Ensure threat phlebotomy requests are accurate

Ensure all patient details are recoded in correct format on the correct patient record

Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post

Driving will be required to enable the HCA to carryout home visits as requested by the practice

The employee should have a full clean driving licence.

Hawthorn Surgery has a list size of 6800 patients and is a busy, forward-thinking Training Practice. We are based in Wortley Beck Health Centre, a purpose-built Health Centre in Lower Wortley, Leeds 12 which has free on-site parking. Our friendly team includes our Practice Manager, GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Nurses, Healthcare Assistant, Administrative and Reception staff. We are also supported by our Primary Care Network colleagues (Bramley/Wortley/Middleton PCN) including pharmacists, physiotherapists, ANPs, Social Prescribers, etc.

We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who has worked in General Practice, who is enthusiastic, organised, and is confident to work unsupervises.

The post is not open to candidates from outside the UK as we are not able to offer visa sponsorship.

The successful candidate may be at times asked to cover colleagues annual leave and other absences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

New patient health checks

NHS Health Checks

Phlebotomy

Blood Pressure checks

ECG recordings

Dressings specific types of dressings following a detailed Nurse assessment

Dopplers Assisting with the procedure

Flu immunisations

B12 injections

Shingles immunisations

Chaperoning duties

Carers Health Check

Pneumonia immunisations

Removal of sutures/clips

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage and monitoring

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Home visits as required

Participate in practice audit as required
