Job summary

Marches Medical Practice is looking to recruit an experienced Practice Nurse to work as part of our primary healthcare team supporting the General Practitioners.

The part-time role is for 27.5 hours working across either 3 or 4 days over our sites in Broughton and Buckley.

You will work closely with the team but work autonomously to help achieve the highest level of care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Experienced practice nurse
  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GP's
  • Cytology
  • Contraception & Sexual health (coil and implant fitting desirable but not essential)
  • HRT Management
  • Chronic disease management including Asthma, COPD, CHD, Diabetes, CKD
  • Venepuncture
  • Routine adult and children's immunisations
  • Minor illness (desirable but not essential)
  • Requesting pathology tests
  • Undertake home visits on occasions
  • Following agreed clinical protocols
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

About us

Marches Medical Practice is a 2 site practice having in excess of 15,300 patients split equally over our sites in Broughton and Buckley.

Our clinical staff consist of 7 GP Partners, 6 Salaried GP's, 2 ANP's, 7 Practice Nurses, 2 HCA's and a phlebotomist. Our clinical team our supported administratively by our Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager and in excess of 20 administration and reception staff.

We are a training practice for GP Registrars and medical students from Cardiff and Liverpool. On occasions we also have students training to be pharmacists.

We have a strong focus on teamwork and are forward- thinking.

HOURS: 27.5 hours per week

Job summary

The experienced practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing General Medical Services to the patients of the practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Contraception and Sexual Health (coil and implant fitting desirable)
  • HRT Management
  • Chronic Disease Management including Asthma, COPD, CHD, Diabetes
  • Venepuncture
  • Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
  • Minor Illness (desirable)
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

The post-holder will implement a full range of promotion and management of their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the practice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
  • Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process, including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements
  • Active observation of current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues as appropriate
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training of others across the full range of infection control and patient processes
  • Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use, storage and disposal
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsible management
  • Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
