Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be highly driven, innovative, proactive and passionate about primary care. You will share our ethos to provide and maintain high quality clinical care in an ever changing environment and will help to shape and drive future development of the Practice.
About us
The Tutbury Practice is a friendly semi-rural GP surgery located in the village of Tutbury, providing high-quality primary care to a patient population of approximately 8,500. We proudly serve patients from Tutbury and the surrounding areas, including Rolleston, Hatton, and Stretton.
Our clinical team is made up of two GP partners and three salaried GPs, supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team that includes a clinical pharmacist, nurse practitioner, and first contact physiotherapist. We are also fortunate to have a friendly, experienced nursing team, alongside a dedicated administration and reception team who play a vital role in supporting patient care.
The practice operates a total digital triage system using accuRx, enabling efficient access to care and streamlined patient communication. We use EMIS Web and Docman to support safe, effective clinical practice and document management.
The Tutbury Practice is a training practice for GP registrars and medical students and is an active research practice, contributing to research that helps improve patient care locally and nationally. We hold regular clinical and practice meetings to support teamwork, learning, and service development, and we consistently achieve high QOF outcomes.
Overall, we are a supportive, forward-thinking practice with a strong team ethos, committed to delivering excellent care to our local community.
Job description
Job responsibilities
Duties:The workload of the Surgery is shared jointly by the clinicians available on the day. The salaried GP is expected to take part in the share of clinical duties including the below list. The needs of the patient population and medical practice should be taken into consideration, meaning this list is not exhaustive and is subject to review and amendment by mutual agreement.
Clinical Duties: Appointments, visits, dealing with queries from patients or other health care professionals.
Home Visits (if appropriate and agreed): These are shared amongst the GP team or the Specialist Practitioner present on the day, if patient appropriate and depending on workload. AVS can be used where appropriate.
Remote Consultations: Some clinics may be required to be taken via remote consultation using the approved technology. Where operational standards are met for home working, remote clinics can be carried out at your place of residence or some other agreed place outside of the Practice as agreed with the Managing Partner.
Being on Call and Total Digital Triage: The salaried GP will be required to participate in on-call duties once per week, providing clinical advice and support as needed. This includes responding to urgent patient queries, coordinating care with other healthcare professionals, and ensuring continuity of care outside normal clinic hours. In addition, the GP will be involved with the total digital triage system, reviewing patient requests submitted via approved digital platforms and ensuring timely, safe, and appropriate clinical responses. On-call and triage duties will be shared fairly amongst the GP team and scheduled in advance wherever possible.
Administration/Paperwork: Arising both directly from own and Practice caseload (referrals, investigations, results). The Salaried GP is responsible for their own patient-associated referrals, correspondence, administration, and paperwork. They will be expected to take a share of practice general incoming clinical correspondence (scanned documents), repeat prescriptions, results, and patient-associated tasks (patient enquiries and phone calls). Any results that get processed by yourself must be actioned appropriately including calling or texting the patient to inform them.
QoF & Clinical Read coding: Opportunistic and ad-hoc QoF monitoring, ensuring accurate clinical read coding, using templates where available, to assist with Practice contractual compliance and monitoring. The Salaried GP is responsible for ensuring that they are familiar with the protocols and procedures surrounding the collection of data, PPA, and invoicing for private or NHS chargeable (i.e., QOF, Enhanced Services etc.) to ensure that the Practice is reimbursed accordingly. Ardens templates should be used as appropriate to ensure accurate data quality in consultation.
Audits: All staff are expected to instigate and partake in the audit process including initiating and running cyclical audits to assist in providing quality of care for patients.
Meetings: The Salaried GP will be expected to attend relevant Practice meetings, essential to the delivery of team-based care, discussing clinical practice standards, developing practice protocols, mutual professional support for individual practitioners, audit, significant event analysis, meetings with locality colleagues including multidisciplinary team and educational meetings. Where these occur on an ad hoc basis, adjustments to clinical workload may be required.
Personal CPD: The Salaried GP is expected to keep up to date with all Practice Protocols and Policies associated with their job role including the Practices own Practice Index Online Training program. Professional CPD is expected to be maintained by the Salaried GP as part of the revalidation process. The Practice will support personal CPD. This may include a mix of in-house meetings and events, time away from the practice, either in private study, attending educational events, or through the Practice study leave allowance. The Salaried GP must request this leave via Practice Index and await management approval.
Clinical Supervision & Colleague Education: As a Senior Clinician, you will be expected to provide clinical supervision to non-GP HCP colleagues where appropriate. This may be in the case of individual clinical learning opportunities or in the supervision and guidance deemed appropriate in the course of supporting patient care. As a Teaching Practice, the Partnership will expect you to help supervise our F1/F2 Doctors where appropriate and to take part in mentoring Student Placements where you have been allocated to do so.
