Job summary

We are a busy GP surgery looking to recruit a highly motivated, professional individual with excellent Customer Service skills to join our friendly reception team.

The role will be 18 hours per week. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate flexibility as our opening times are 8am until 6pm so hours may need to cover these start and finish times.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the Receptionist, but other tasks may be included in the role:

- work on the front reception desk dealing with patient enquiries face to face

- Take telephone calls from patients to make appointments or sign post to more suitable services

- Deal with varied matters such as prescription requests and registrations

- Process incoming electronic information as well as paperwork on a daily basis in a timely and accurate manner

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the medical receptionist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent on factors such as workload and staffing levels.

Process and effectively signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, depending on the presenting condition

Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers requests appropriately

Process patient requests for appointments

Process repeat prescription requests

Action incoming emails

Scan patient-related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients healthcare records

Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members and external agencies

Enter read/SNOMED CT code data on Systmone

Photocopy documentation as required

Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required

Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary

Direct requests for information, e.g., SAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLA forms, to the administrative team

Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner

Carry out system searches as requested

Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

Monitor and maintain the reception area and noticeboards

Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested

Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes

Contribute to public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics) through advice or direct care

Offer flexibility to cover team absence where possible
