Job summary

Due to relocation, an opportunity has arisen at Greens Norton & Weedon Medical Practice for an enthusiastic, committed and caring Paramedic to join our well-established two site practice for 37.5 hours per weeks.

We are looking for a First Contact Paramedic who has a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, 2 years of consolidation as a band 5 Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) followed by a minimum of 3 years as a band 6 Paramedic.

This post also requires you to have completed the clinical pillar of the masters programme (or be able to evidence relevant experience) and requires prescribing qualifications.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a full-time (37.5 hours) First Contact Paramedic to work alongside our multi-disciplinary team, taking responsibility in making professional and autonomous decisions and ensuring effective clinical administration, audit and management appropriate to the role.

A flexible approach is a must as we deliver face-to-face, video and telephone consultations and visiting housebound patients.

The Paramedic role are health professionals who practice at an advanced level having the capability to make sound judgements in the absence of full information and to manage varying degrees of risk when there are complex, competing or ambiguous information or uncertainty.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

The following are the core responsibilities to be undertaken by the Paramedic. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) within Greens Norton & Weedon Medical Practice
  • Assess and triage patients, including same day triage, and as appropriate provide definitive treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE (national and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or make necessary referrals to other members of the primary care team.
  • Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to the surgery's social prescribing service and, where appropriate, other community or voluntary service.
  • Perform specialist health checks and reviews within their scope of practice and in line with local and national guidance
  • Perform and interpret ECGs
  • Perform investigatory procedures as required and undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs and other samples within scope of practice and within line of local and national guidance
  • Provide an alternative model to urgent and same day GP home visit for the practice
  • Communicate at all levels across the practice ensuring that an effective, person-centred service is delivered
  • Communicate pro-actively and effectively with all colleagues across the MDT, attending and contributing to meetings as required
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous health records appropriate to the consultation, ensuring accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare and registration with the practice
  • Communicate effectively with patients and where appropriate, family members and their carers complex and sensitive information regarding their physical health needs, results, findings and treatment choice
