Job summary

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physician Associate (PA) to join our team here at Loomer Medical Partnership. The successful candidate is required to have completed the Physician Associate Postgraduate Diploma/Masters from accredited UK University

Main duties of the job

A mix of face to face and video/telephone triage assess, diagnose, treat and provide advice and care to patients with undiagnosed, undifferentiated minor injury and illness. To refer when necessary, to other health care services e.g. Secondary Care, Community Services.

The post holder will be well supported in this Primary care role, by an accountable GP(s).You will be expected to work across our sites alongside our GP and wider clinical team to meet the needs of patients by providing direct clinical care using clinical guidelines.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • In a face to face setting or via video/telephone triage assess patients with both minor and complex needs through history taking, physical examination and appropriate use of investigations to confirm diagnosis
  • Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological, psychological and social perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly
  • Plan, implement and evaluate an effective management plan for the patient, ensuring safe discharge/referral and/or transfer to an appropriate health care service
  • Diagnose and manage acute, integrating both drug- and non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan
  • Perform safe triage of patients when necessary
  • Transcribe medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice
  • Provide information and advice on over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions
  • Be able to justify choice of medication, and support patients in the use of their prescribed medication (within own scope of practice
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care where appropriate
  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
  • Under appropriate supervision, conduct home visits and care home visits as required. Training will be provided if there is no prior experience in this area of work.
