is eager to develop themselves within the Practice and our multidisciplinary
teams.
You should have a professional, flexible and adaptive
approach to working and a positive can-do attitude. Whilst the working hours
will be Monday to Friday, all our Practice Team members support the extended
access rota. This means that on occasion, you may be required to work an
evening or Saturday shift. This will be on rotation and with plenty of notice.
This is a busy, demanding and interesting role and you will
need to be quick thinking and tenacious, but also kind and understanding.
Working in a great team of clinical and non-clinical colleagues, we need you to
be friendly, flexible and used to using your initiative as well as working
closely with colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of the GP Assistant is to:
Provide comprehensive administrative support to clinicians
and practice staff. This role requires someone who is proactive,
well-organised, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
You will be working alongside an experienced secretary, so
strong collaboration and mutual support are essential.
You will be required to process patient referrals, offer
advice, guidance and assistance to the practice team, patients, relatives,
carers or other healthcare agencies and undertake a variety of administrative
duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice.

at two surgeries to the North and South of Scarborough our teams support over 16,000
patients.

Job responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to -
Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice.
Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.
Every member of staff at the practice with no exception has a responsibility to review the processes they undertake each day and make suggestions for improvements to the appropriate manager or team leader.
Duties and responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the GP Assistant team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the members line management, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:
- Typing letters, referrals forms and associated documentation as required.
- Processing Advice and Guidance to consultants via the RSS and Gateway portals.
- Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently.
- Managing all enquires in an effective and timely manner.
- Processing referrals using the electronic referral systems.
- Processing referrals from tasks using Gateway.
- Managing all administrative queries as necessary.
- Process and distribute incoming emails.
- Administrative duties related to Cervical Screening using the new electronic system.
- Processing requests through the Medical Examiner Service.
- Processing of Pathology Results.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
- Undertake any other tasks relevant to the post as requested and considered to be within the remit of the role.
