Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to support our Practice Nursing and Administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The post would be 15-20 hours per week over 2 or 3 days per week - the days would have to be Mondays and Fridays and the third day if applicable would be Tuesdays. These are not changeable due to space in the Health Centre.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education while also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.

You would be required to do phlebotomy, blood pressure checks, administer vaccinations such as flu etc. Our HCAs also do our chronic disease reviews including diabetic foot checks, ECGs, chaperoning and other appropriate HCA duties such as ensuring supplies are stocked etc.

We would also ask that the successful candidate has transport as home visits may be required for INR check/chronic disease reviews.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Practice Nurses and General Practitioners

Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples

To undertake the initial part of annual chronic disease reviews

To undertake diagnostic tests where relevant and correctly trained such as ECGs and Spirometry

To undertake vaccinations where appropriately trained

Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure.

Assistance at clinics ensuring patient care by chaperoning and assisting patients to undress and dress

Provide assistance in minor operations & coils etc ensuring patient care by chaperoning

Assist with the provision of health checks for newly registered patients

To undertake dermatology (Telederm) appointments (when appropriately trained)

To undertake home visits for chronic disease reviews/INR testing if necessery

To maintain adequate stock levels in stock cupboards, treatment rooms, fridges and cupboards

To be responsible for the checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt

The inputting of information onto the practice clinical system

The use of the practice clinical system for patient searches for clinics and patient recall

The ongoing cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use

Ensure adequate infection control procedures in treatment rooms and consulting rooms
