Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time GP Receptionist to join our friendly, brilliant and hard working reception team based at the Limehouse Practice in Tower Hamlets.

The practice is looking for an experienced dedicated receptionist to join our team.

Hours per week: 37.5 (negotiable)

Days of work: Monday to Friday (with occasional Saturdays)

Work start time: 8:00AM (requirement)

Applicants should be flexible and able to work in a busy environment both face to face and over the telephone.

Essential skills include good communication, a willingness to learn with the ability to use own initiative and be part of the team.

Previous experience of working in a GP Surgery is a plus but not essential as full training will be provided to the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Main aspects of the role are to receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Project a positive, friendly image to patients and visitors.

  • Sensitivity and empathy with people from different backgrounds.
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Able to work as part of team.

The Limehouse Practice is a team focused, friendly practice based in Tower Hamlets, East London. The team consists of 4 GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 Pharmacists and 2 HCAs backed by an experienced administration team and a supportive Network. With a multicultural diverse population and a list size of over 12,000, we offer a personalised list system within micro-teams, giving patients the continuity of care. We are also a teaching and training practice.

  • Book and schedule patient appointments using the EMIS
  • Ensure the smooth running of the waiting area and be observant of the patients waiting
  • Answer the telephone promptly and deal with enquiries in a helpful and courteous manner
  • Ensure all forms of correspondence are processed in a timely manner
  • Undertake general clerical duties including photocopying, filing and faxing
  • Ensure the reception area is kept tidy and all areas are safe
  • To deal with sensitive information and be able to emphasise with patients, colleagues and others
  • To process repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice procedures
  • To attend and contribute to staff meetings and development meetings constructively
