Job summary

St Ann's Medical Centre have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our large, vibrant, and friendly teaching Practice in the heart of Rotherham, with excellent travel and commuter links.

We are looking for the right person to join our collaborative team, which include GPs, Advance Care/Nurse Practitioners, paramedics, and a successful nursing team who are all supported by a number of dedicated administrative departments.

Main duties of the job

The healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care, working under the direct supervision of our practice nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

About us

Our team consists of 5 partners (including 1 PCN Director) 7 salaried GPs, 2 registrars, a large nursing team which includes 3 ANPs, Paramedic, Pharmacist and around 40 non-clinical support staff. We enjoy the buzz of our large team, and the support we can offer to each other. Our practice is part of an active 45000 patient PCN group with 2 other practices across which we share several ARRS role staff.

Our main surgery site was purpose built in 2004, with dedicated rooms for all our GPs, we have 2 branch surgeries (both recently modernised) from which we provide quality primary healthcare for our 18,000+ patients. Our SystmOne clinical software is linked across our 3 sites.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Phlebotomy

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Urinalysis

Taking and recording of blood pressure

Measurement of height and weight

Smoking cessation advice and onward referral as appropriate

Recognise changes in patients observations which must be reported and acted upon

Assist clinicians in the emergency management of patients

Chaperoning duties

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Follow infection control standards and guidance

Contribute ideas to improve patient care

Clearing and re-stocking HCA and nurse clinical rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions and including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Undertaking visits to patients in the community to ensure we fulfil our annual review requirements for the Quality and Outcomes Framework
