Vine Medical Group is recruiting for an experienced Part
Time Phlebotomist to join our Clinical Team.
Supported by our Nursing Team the
Phlebotomist plays a key role in patient care by collecting blood samples for testing
to support diagnostic and treatment decisions whilst ensuring patient comfort
and safety.
We are looking for someone who is committed to providing high-quality
patient care, enjoys working with people, is detailed orientated and works well
as part of a team.
We can consider candidates
seeking 25 hours per week between Monday- Friday, with a working pattern to be
agreed. To include our extended opening hours,
on a rotational basis (after successful completion of the probationary period) which
can include early weekday mornings or one weekend session a month.

Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of our Clinicians,
strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols. To
provide a high quality, safe and efficient phlebotomy service by collecting
blood samples from patients in a professional, timely and caring manner.
Assist and support patient care delivery by undertaking
delegated work that is within own level skill and competence.

Job responsibilities
- Work within
clinical boundaries, demonstrating safe and competent clinical decision-making,
delivering high quality clinical care and maintaining patient confidentiality
at all times
- To perform
venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as a result of a direct
referral / appointment request from our Practice Clinician team
- Accurate
recording of care provision onto patient records ensuring correct coding of all
procedures and information using approved methods and templates
- Ensuring that
the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their
agreement to the collection of a blood sample
- Collection of
sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures including
checking of venepuncture site
- Ensuring
samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate,
legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Checking
patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient
whenever possible
- Recording
collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice
procedure
- Ensuring that
samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
- Ensuring that
anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notifying the
clinical team of any significant patient issues
- To undertake
any other duties commensurate with the role, within the bounds of his/her own
competence
- Chaperoning and
assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another
clinician

chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Conduct routine
and post-use inspections of emergency equipment and medications

operations and LARC fittings

participate in all aspects of infection prevention and control and champion

- Helping to
raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
- Assisting with
the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
and support QOF requirements and data completion
- To assist in
seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign

accurate clinical records in conjunction with Practice policies and current
legislation
