Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and well-motivated individuals to work in our friendly clinical team.

The successful candidate will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Good communication skills are essential in this role, both written and verbal.

The candidate must be competent in using a computer; ability to use Emis web system is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

Candidates recommended to have experience in Phlebotomy and 1-year minimum general practice experience.

The successful candidate must hold a valid Health care certificate or NVQ equivalent.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities

Long term condition reviews

  • treating minor wounds under the direction of senior nurse
  • applying and removing dressings
  • providing emergency first aid and treatment
  • giving advice, education and information about health conditions and ailments, stopping smoking and losing weight
  • taking patient samples, swabs and specimens, and checking pulses, temperatures and blood pressures
  • running well-woman and man clinics and clinics for specific ailments such as diabetes and asthma
  • liaising with other health care professionals, practice nurses, GPs and/or hospitals
  • writing records and keeping patients notes up to date
  • Long term conditions annual reviews
  • Flu campaign

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Roles

New patient health checks, NHS Health Checks, ECG recording, Phlebotomy, BP monitoring, Urinalysis, Weight management, Assist with adolescent immunisations, Assist with long term condition management (foot checks etc.) and Chaperoning duties.

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording.

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms (includes checking expiry dates). Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

To acquire, maintain and improve knowledge and skills required to competently perform all agreed health care activities. This involves undertaking in-house and mandatory training as agreed by the Manager.

To attend team meetings in order to keep updated on developments within the department.

Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice.

Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines

Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimen process, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice.

Safe management of sharps procedures. Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.

Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, sterile, and assuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness across the practice

Waste management and Spillage control procedures and management.

Decontamination control procedures, management and equipment maintenance
