Job summary

Have you got an eye for detail? Would you like to work for the National Health Service and carry out an administrative role that can really make a difference and improve patient care? If so then this may be the role for you.

We are looking for someone who is; hard working, enjoys reading, enjoys having their own workload and is interested in health care and records management.

Main duties of the job

50% of your time will be carrying out administrative tasks; patient registrations, records management (medical notes in and out), contacting patients either by telephone or text, booking specific appointments as necessary.

For the other 50% you will work as a medical notes summariser. (Training can be provided for this aspect of the role). This is so much more than trawling through records. In this role you will have the opportunity to help people.

The doctors and nurses depend heavily on the quality of the clinical records to provide much needed information to the patients and other teams across the surgery. To undertake this aspect of the role you must be able to read large amounts of clinical information and have an eye for detail.

About us

Based in Brighton, we are a busy National Health Service (NHS) GP surgery (based in Kemptown) with a patient list of approximately 7,000 patients.

We are walking distance from Brighton station and are on the bus route based off St James Street.

We have a team of approximately 25 staff and are committed to working hard to give patients a good experience of NHS healthcare.

Full training can be provided for the summarising aspect of the role. However, a strong command of English language and strong reading ability is required to be able to thrive in the role.

Job responsibilities

Job summary:

The practice works in a paper-light environment, and the main responsibilities of the post-holder will be to summarise and code relevant information from patients clinical records into the practice computer system, working strictly in accordance with the practice notes summarising protocol.

You will also spend 50% of your time assisting with a range of administrative tasks such as; patient registrations, records management (in and out), contacting patients either by telephone or text, assisting with achievement of Quality Outcome Framework (QOF) targets, booking specific appointments as necessary.

Main duties/key tasks:

Culling and sorting patient records and letters in preparation for summarising

Reviewing medical records and producing an accurate summary of the patients medical history

Coding the information into the practice clinical system

Auditing data collection standards in the practice

Monitoring progress of notes summarising against practice targets

Filing and retrieving paperwork

Coding incoming letters on to the clinical system

Electronic records management workflow.

Any other reasonable administrative task.

Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role

Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)

Reporting potential risks identified
