Medical Receptionist

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Receptionist to join our practice team.

We will need one week to review all the applications. During this time, we will begin contacting shortlisted candidates for interviews, which are scheduled to take place during the week commencing 8th September.

Main duties of the job

Receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

About us

We have a list size of 10,000 patients and deliver our GMS contract over 3 sites. Our main site is Hawarden Health Centre with branch sites in Saltney and Buckley. Hawarden is located 6.7 miles from Chester and is 4 miles from the English border, we are close to motorway links giving direct access to Chester, Liverpool and Manchester

Job description

Job responsibilities

Handling incoming telephone calls, responding to patient queries, and booking appointments.

Liaising with external agencies, hospitals, and organisations as required.

Responding to and managing incoming emails.

Processing and raising blood forms and referrals, including radiology requests.

Maintaining adequate stock levels at reception, including specimen bottles and relevant paperwork (e.g. registration packs, blood appointment slips, prescription request forms).

Managing prescription requests (online and paper), including data entry, coding into EMIS, and printing Controlled Drug paperwork.

Assisting patients with setting up and using the NHS App and online services.

Registering temporary patients on EMIS on an occasional basis.

Monitoring and checking fridge temperatures (including temporary fridges).

Opening and closing the practice premises when required.

Providing chaperone support during consultations as requested.

Processing clinician task requests and managing patient flow in the waiting area.

Booking appointments via Enhanced Primary Care when appropriate.

Signposting patients to suitable external services such as pharmacies or the Welsh Eye Care Service.

Communicating and coordinating with District Nurses, care homes, and pharmacies regarding patient care and queries.
