INTERVIEW DATE - TUESDAY 31st March (PM)

We are currently looking for someone to join our team to assist with the provision of nursing services to patients alongside our GPs and nursing team. Including Long Term Condition and Health Checks

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with the nursing team offering a range of services to our patients some of which include:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Health Promotion
  • Immunisations
  • Health Checks
  • Simple dressings in line with any received training

You will be willing to learn and develop and work as part of our great nursing team.

About us

We are a large, inner city PMS practice, with a team of 22 GPs, GP Trainee's, 2 practice nurses, PA's, HCA's, and 3 pharmacists.

We are a dynamic, friendly, well-organised practice team serving a vibrant and culturally diverse patient population in Camden.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: HCA/NURSING ASSISTANT/PHLEBOTOMIST

REPORTS TO: Nursing Lead Partner - Clinical

Practice Manager - Administrative

Head of Ops - Administrative

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

Job Summary:

To assist with the provision of nursing services to patients attending the practice and assisting the nurses and GPs in the provision of general and specialist medical services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs according to the practice Infection Control Policy
  • Maintain GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by a clinician
  • Recording heights, weights, blood pressure and other measurements of patients as required
  • Obtaining specimens e.g. urine, testing as instructed and completing appropriate laboratory forms
  • Carry out phlebotomy duties and prepare blood samples and forms for transporting to the appropriate laboratory
  • Smoking Cessation (training given)
  • Health Promotion
  • Conduct NHS Health Checks and Initial Chronic Disease Checks
  • Answer telephone in treatment rooms, take, record and transmit messages
  • Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of treatment and GP rooms, preparation of laundry and linen for surgeries
  • Maintain accurate records, utilising IM & T where appropriate, ensuring the senior nurse on duty is advised of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Chase up and record all the childrens immunisation status
  • Keep waiting areas and staff room tidy
  • Any other tasks allocated by managers

Duties and Responsibilities as a Phlebotomist:

  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
  • Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures
  • Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
  • Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
  • Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
  • Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
  • Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
  • Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues
  • Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
