Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a part time qualified Advance Paramedic Practitioner to be a key member of our busy clinical team. We would like someone to join us who can bring their clinical skills and positive way of working.

This is an important role to help us ensure that our patients receive the best and most appropriate care for their needs. The role is not only for on the day but also to follow up patients you may see who require continuing appointments or regular check-ins.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities to include triage, home visits and acute care. Ideally, you would be a prescriber, although this is not a requirement.

You would work closely with our clinical and non-clinical teams, all of whom have been with us for a good number of years. We are positive and proactive, supporting each other even when things are busy.

You would have the freedom and authority to act and make autonomous decisions in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.

We are a busy growing semi-rural practice (part dispensing) with three GP partners based over two sites. We positively encourage staff development and we are a training and teaching practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Primary responsibilities:

  • Alongside the multidisciplinary team, to provide a first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems. Making use of skills in history taking, physical examination, problem-solving and clinical decision-making to establish a diagnosis and management plan.
  • To provide assessment, treatment and diagnosis at point of first contact by attending to patients including home visits.
  • To make professionally autonomous decisions for which he/she is accountable.
  • To refer patients to an alternative care setting or treat and discharge as appropriate.
  • To instigate necessary invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tests or investigations and interpret findings/reports.
  • Assuming they are a prescribing qualified clinician, generate EPS and FP10 prescriptions within scope of practice, considering local and national guidelines.
  • To ensure that professional standards are maintained and within the guidance provided by the Department of Health, the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the College of Paramedics (COP).
  • To support network implementation of agreed service changes and pathways, working closely with other staff members, support and deliver local improvement programmes aligned to national and local priorities.
  • To contribute to the service achieving its quality targets to sustain high standards of patient care and service delivery.
  • To participate in identification of community health needs and develop patient/family centred strategies to address them.
  • To help develop and set up new patient services and participate in initiatives to improve existing patient services.
  • To support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements.
  • To participate in the management of patient complaints when requested to do so and participate in the identification of any necessary learning brought about through clinical incidents and near-miss events
  • To undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes.
  • To contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance.
  • To attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed.
  • To provide effective visible leadership that fosters a culture of professionalism, compassion, excellence and the development of effective team working.
  • To develop yourself and the role through participation in training and service redesign activities.
  • To contribute to public health campaigns (e.g. flu clinics) through advice or direct care.
  • To maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
